April 11, 2011 - Rained all day today.  Last week I broke ground for food plots at Carl's.  2 1/2 acres of corn, and 1/2 acres of soy beans.  Phil has a new, no till, two row planter.  We plan to no till a bunch of soy beans in May.  Both farms will be planted in corn, then probably wheat this fall.

I sowed a lot of clover in the food plots on both places this winter, but it appears to not be coming up.  I will probably put forage soy beans in all of the food plots over here, and maybe follow up with a few turnips this fall.

Check out the forage soy beans we are planting.  Phil is a dealer for them.  http://www.eagleseed.com

April 14, 2011 - We used Phil's planter at Carl's today.  Phil and I planted about 2 acres of corn, and 2-3 acres of beans.  The corn is down close to the lake, away from Mr. Abbots property.  The beans are where the corn was last year, and below the big pond.  As soon as it dries up again, we will start back to work on plots over here.

I bought three new trail cameras and two moultrie barrel feeders this week also.

April 18, 2011 - Today I bush hogged where the beans will come up at Carl's, and chopped up the corn that was left standing on the power line, getting ready to plant beans there.  I think we will wait until the middle of May or maybe even June to plant most of the beans over here, in hopes that they will still be around during deer season.  We'll see how the weather cooperates.

April 28, 2011 - Tearing pages off the calendar and emptying the rain gage.  Extensive rain and severe weather for the last week.  They are going to raise the lake as high as they did last year, to help with flood control.  I expect part of the corn plots to be flooded out.  I got the zone map posted, and will add more detailed maps later.

May 3 - Finally stopped raining today, and the sun came out.  We have record flooding.  Prizer Point is under water.  The boat shop has 4 foot of water in it, and the lake is still rising.  The rock at Rockcastle is under water.  It is up on the circle drive at Carl and Maxine's.  Probably 6 feet from going in the cattle barn at Carl's.  All of the corn food pots are under water.  The beans are ok.  The row crops are supposed to be corn, but there is nearly complete failure to sprout at Carl's.  Ours was not planted.  If it doesn't dry up enough by the end of May, I expect they will plant beans instead.  When  was the last time we had a normal weather year?  (drought, ice storms, floods).  I'll try to get some flood photos to post.
The lake is supposed to be at it's highest Thursday.

June 12 - Been busy putting up hay, etc.  The water went down, and the mosquitoes have gone for the most part.  We replanted the corn that was flooded out, and most of it is up and doing good.  We have drilled in at least 4 acres of forage soy beans at Carl's.  Also put beans in the usual food plots on our farm, as well as along the creek.  The row crop fields are planted in corn.  The big change is that a lot of the trees in the south zone and on the southeast facing hillside behind the house that were damaged by the ice storm, and then the drought are dying. We are logging the trees in the south zone, removing all the severly damaged and dyng trees, and all of the low grade beach and gum.  It looks like a bomb went off over there.  Long term it will be good for the timber stand.  Removing all the big beach trees, and damaged maple will really open it up for the oaks to produce.  Short term I think it will look bad, but it won't hurt, and might even help the hunting, especially if we maintain the food plots.  As soon as the loggers are out, I plan to drill some beans on the power line.  Bucks are starting to get their antlers,  I'll try to get the trail cameras out before to long.

July 22 - Been sick for the last two month.  Turns out it was mostly my gall bladder.  Had it removed last week, and recovered enough to check the trail cameras yesterday.  All the new cameras had a problem.  I set the motion sensitivity to the high setting, and they made lots of pictures with nothing in them, pobably just a leaf moving.  Filled up the memory cards in less than 48 hrs, and ran the batteries down.  Got new batteries today, and will try again.  Did catch a decent 8 pointer on a camera in Qubey hollow.  I did not get the beans planted on the power line.  Will have to put turnips or some other late season planting there.  Also have a few tree tops to get out of the road where the loggers have been.

August 13 - Posted new photos in the photo section.  Phil has cleared the roads in pleasure ridge and is doing some bush hogging today.  Still have some roads to clear in the south zone, and need to get a few fallen limbs in the north zone.

Sept 19 - Posted new photos in the photo section.  Phil and I have cleared the roads in the South Zone, and planted about 5 acres of wheat in the North and South Zones.  The corn has been picked.

Oct 22 - Dave Bearden tagged this big bodied 10 pointer during early muzzle loader season.  He took it in Queby Hollow.

Nov 23 - Aubrey dropped this nice 10 pointer in the South Zone.

Nov 16 - Allens big 8 pointer in the North Zone.
